Dede's pond is the largest of the group because it was the last one to
be installed. We knew from experience that we wanted the largest pre-formed
pond we could find. It is a whopping 270 gallons and the fish really enjoy
the extra room. Dede started her pond in July of 2001. She purchased 6
"feeder" goldfish & two small 3 inch white koi to begin
with. Can you say bio overload? One of the originial koi and 2 of the
goldfish made it through the initial startup period and were soon joined
by "Pudgepot" - a fancy Lionhead goldfish. These four fish were
joined by Survivor from Cy's pond and Beau & Bubbles from Michele's
pond. Pudgey stayed outside the entire summer in the pond but now resides
in his own aquarium. Fancy goldfish do not have the proper metabolism
to be left outdoors during the winter.
We will post pictures of all the residents as soon as the tempature warms
enough to bring the fish out from their tunnels. Dede has two sections
of pvc pipe in the bottom of her pond to provide a hiding spot from predators
and they have been hibernating inside the tunnels since the cold weather
started. They are snug and secure and settled in until spring.
